A few weeks have passed since the Israeli elections. As
of this writing, a coalition has not yet been formed by Ariel
Sharon. Even if Sharon manages to put together a coalition,
there are very rough political times ahead for our new Prime
Minister. He faces the same fractious Knesset that led Ehud
Barak to call for new elections and convinced Benjamin Netanyahu
not to run as the Likud candidate. The Israeli electorate has
issued a clear vote against the continuation of the Oslo process
and is not willing to accept the deception and lies of the
Palestinian Arab leadership. Many in the Israel peace movement
have been disillusioned by the continuing violence and
acknowledge that the only possible solution is a total
separation of the two populations. This is not a viable
alternative at the present time since the economy and
infrastructure of the Palestinian Arab populations is almost
totally dependent on Israel.

Most of the world
monetary assistance given to the PA since the signing of the
Oslo agreement has been squandered by Arafat and the corrupt
authority under his leadership. Instead of improving the lot of
the average Palestinian Arab, the economic situation has
deteriorated. There appears to be no way out of this vicious
cycle. We are fighting a war with an authority that cares little
about its own people and has not moved from its 52 year old
position of dismantling the State of Israel in stages…whether
it be through negotiated Israeli concessions or Arab violence.
Today, they are trying to achieve their aims by doing both
simultaneously.
“There in no alternative to destroying Israel…” That
is the banner on the title page of “Our Country Palestine”,
a textbook introduced by the Palestinian Authority into the 6th
grade curriculum for the school year 2000/2001.
How do you make peace while at the same time teaching
hate? Their intention is not to make peace. Their goal is to
wear Israel down through international pressure.

A
few weeks ago, I returned from a three-week tour of Norway. The
Norwegian Christian leadership planned every detail of my trip and
put its full weight behind Shuva Israel. I spoke in 22 Churches
including the largest Church in Norway, appeared on Christian
Television and toured with the leaders of the Norwegian Christian
Embassy. Shuva Israel was covered by Christian newspapers all over
the country. More than 400 Norwegian Christians committed
themselves to the building program in Einav through monthly or
quarterly tithing. The outpouring of support and love for Israel
was amazing. We accomplished more in three weeks in Norway than in
the previous two years in America.
There is no question that the success of our campaign in
Norway results from the fact that the Christian leadership there
caught the vision and started running with it.
When
I was a youngster growing up in Chicago, I admired the sometimes
brutal honesty of people like Martin Luther King. He took a stand
and at times said things that didn’t win him a popularity
contest. I am going to use this quality and state that the reason
US Christians lag far behind in their support of Judea and Samaria
is because of the inability of its leaders to understand the
significance of this moment and the cry of those of us risking our
lives in Judea and Samaria. After two years of running after the
US leadership, I get no answer from most and those I do hear from,
tell me they are too busy. If these and others understood, they
would find the time to make a difference. How long does it take to
open important doors for Shuva by making a few phone calls to key
people who support Israel? How much time would it take to
designate a member of their staff to assist Shuva in its mission?
With 80% of the more than 700 Biblical references in the Bible
made to Israel, referring to Judea and Samaria, the American
Christian leadership is missing out on their mandate to bless the
Biblical Mountains of Samaria.
In Norway, Shuva Israel has the
support of the leadership and the pastors in the individual
churches. In America, the opposite has been the case…. AMERICA.
I challenge you. WAKE UP! Get in on what God is doing in OUR
lifetimes!
