Taken from the Jerusalem Post, September 28, 2001. Article written by Jonathan Rosenblum

In the aftermath of the deadly Islamist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, Israeli leaders should have hammered home a few simple points at every opportunity.

  1. Palestinians did, in fact, celebrate the collapse of the Twin Towers, and those celebrations reflect a pathological hatred of America actively promoted by the Palestinian leadership. On the very day of the attacks, the official Palestinian Authority daily claimed, ‘suicide bombers are the noble successors of…the Lebanese suicide bombers who taught the US Marines a tough lesson (killing 241 Marines in Beirut)…They are the most honorable among us…’ The same PA newspaper reported on Nov. 11, 2000 that 73% of the Palestinians support military attackes on American targets in the Middle East. Hafiz al-Barghuti, editor-in-chief of this paper, characterizes American sanctions against Iraq as ‘an effort to terrorize the entire Arab world and cause it to vomit up its Arabism, its religion and its history…and to remain the humiliated slave of bloodsuckers.’ In a 1997 editorial, al-Barghuti savored the image of  ‘45,000 American soldiers returning to the US in body bags.’

  2. Yasser Arafat virtually invented international terrorism, including skyjackings.

  3. Palestinian society is permeated with the same death cult that possessed those who hijacked four US airliners, and crashed them into the WTC and the Pentangon.

  4. In recent Palestinian polls, anywhere from 73-81% expressed support for suicide bombings. Palestinian media portrays martyrdom as the highest goal of the faithful, and suicide bombers as the greatest of the martyrs. Children as young as eight expressing their desire for martyrdom and parents speaking of hopes that all their offspring will be ‘martys’ are daily media fare.

  5. Osama bin Laden’s insane loathing of America and the Palestinian rage at Israel are both rooted in a vision of jihad between Muslims and infidels. Their hatred is thus implacable, compromise impossible.

  6. In recent months, PA appointed religious leaders have taught repeatedly that it is Allah’s will to kill all Jews.

  7. Every treaty with Israel, including Arafat’s most recent declaration of a cease fire, is explicity justified by PA media as a tactic for the ultimate destruction of Israel. It is thus not accidental that no Palestinian textbook or document has ever portrayed Israel within any borders, or recognized Israel’s right to exist in any borders, for such recognition contradicts the theology of the Palestinian movement.”

With the best of intentions and planning, Pre../side2nt Bush and US allies will not be able to uproot terror until they stop making the distinction between terrorism affecting America and European soil and Israel. By doing so, America and its European allies are  justifying terror against Israel. Their will be no long term success against the international terrorisme until Arafat, Iran, Syria, Hizballah and Hamas are put where they belong…on the same list as bin-Laden and the Taliban regime. Until the ENTIRE terrorist infrastructure is targeted and uprooted at the source, there will always remain the seeds that will birth another bin-Laden. Going after only part of the infrastructure will allow it to regenerate. Pre../side2nt Bush is correct in saying that this is NOT a fight against Moslems. It IS a fight against extremist elements within Islam. They must be pursued and brought to justice…ALL OF THEM. To do anything less makes a mockery and failure of the entire effort.        Eliezer Braun

Amotz Asa-El of the Jerusalem Post adds…”Now, as they board the Western war effort’s bandwagon, the coalition’s tyrants will not only continue to trample freedom, they will actually have been granted from George Bush himself a political bill of health. Sadly, Washington seems intent on re-assembling another era’s coalition in order to treat the symptoms rather than the causes of its new disease, while deluding itself that countries where terrorists are hailed and American flags are used as doormats can be part of the solution to a problem that they actually embody. Israel, in the meantime, will have to acquiesce with its age-old quest for a solid place under the sun frustrated, and its more familiar place under the gun consolidated.”

Rabbi Shmuley Boteach adds…”The essence of forgiveness is that an individual is so valuable that we allow them the opportunity to start afresh after error. But since repentance is based on recognizing the infinite value of human life, its premise cannot be simultaneously undermined by offering it to those who have irretrievably debased human life. The bottom line is that there are some offenses for which there is no forgiveness; some borders whose transgression society cannot tolerate under any circumstances, and mass murder is foremost among them. Only if we hate the truly evil passionately will we summon the determination to fight them fervently. Odd and uncomfortable as it may seem, hatred has its place. Although they referred to a different era in history, the words of Martin Luther King, Jr., still ring true today: "We will have to repent in this generation not merely for the vitriolic words and actions of the bad people, but for the appalling silence of the good  people." Let us love the righteous and fight the wicked.”
